Expo ID Registration and Ticket Purchase
Getting Your Expo ID
Every interaction with the Expo 2025 reservation system — tickets, pavilion bookings, same-day registration — requires an Expo ID. The ID is created via the official website using an email address or a Google/Apple account.
Email method:
- Click "Get Expo ID" on the official site
- Enter your email address
- Access the confirmation link sent to your email
- Set a password to complete registration
Once registered, all subsequent access is via login. For PC access, a one-time authentication step is required — be prepared for this additional step when logging in from a desktop browser for the first time.
Ticket Types and Pricing
Available ticket categories:
- General admission
- Student
- Season pass
- Weekday ticket
Pricing ranges approximately ¥6,000 for general admission. After purchase, the electronic ticket requires you to specify both the date and the entry time window — this is not optional and cannot be skipped.
Timing: When to Go
Attendance data is published daily. The pattern: Saturdays are the most crowded day of the week; Tuesday mornings are the least crowded. For visitors who have scheduling flexibility, arriving Tuesday at 9:00 AM produces substantially fewer queues at both the gate and popular pavilion reservation terminals.
Gate Selection
Two entry gates:
- East Gate: served by Osaka Metro Chuo Line at Yumeshima Station. Approximately 76% of visitors enter here. Crowded proportionally, but the rail connection is direct and fast.
- West Gate: served by shuttle buses from Sakurajima Station and other points. Approximately 23% of visitors. If you have a primary set of targets in the western part of the venue, the West Gate saves meaningful time.
Match your gate selection to your target pavilions' locations. Changing gates mid-visit requires a significant walk or a shuttle bus ride.
Ticket ID Linkage for Group Bookings
If tickets were purchased through a corporate or group channel, each individual ticket ID must be linked to your own Expo ID before the visit. This linkage allows each member of the group to make their own pavilion reservations independently. Complete the linkage at home before the day of the visit.
Reservation Methods
The expo uses four reservation methods in sequence. Understanding all four is necessary for any visit strategy.
Method 1: Two-Month Prior Lottery
Opens exactly two months before your visit date. Apply within the application window; results are by draw.
Reported success rate for weekday slots: approximately 80%. Apply for your top one or two priorities — the lottery is your best single chance at the most sought-after pavilions.
Method 2: Seven-Day Prior Lottery
Opens one week before your visit. Second pass at mid-tier popular pavilions, and a second chance for pavilions where the two-month lottery was missed.
Reported success rate: approximately 50%. Worth applying even if the two-month lottery failed for a specific pavilion.
Method 3: Three-Day Prior First-Come (Midnight Opening)
Not a lottery — speed competition. The booking window opens at 0:00 AM exactly, three days before your visit.
Preparation required:
- Log in to your Expo ID before midnight
- Navigate to the My Ticket screen and have it active at 11:59 PM
- When the clock turns to 0:00, the first-come application button becomes visible and pressable
This method rewards preparation over luck. Visitors who have the My Ticket screen active and click at exactly midnight have a significantly better result than those who navigate to the page after midnight.
Method 4: Same-Day Registration
After entering the venue, a 10-minute wait period passes. Then same-day registration opens for that day's remaining slots. One active reservation at a time — after completing a pavilion visit, the next registration becomes available.
Tip: head directly to a registration terminal (not a smartphone) immediately after the 10-minute window opens. Terminals have lower error rates during peak contention.
Key Pavilions and Food Strategy
High-Priority Pavilions
Signature Pavilions: All 8 Signature Pavilions accept same-day registration. Popular ones (null², Future of Life) fill within minutes of opening. Plan registration timing around these.
Italy Pavilion: Requires registration through a dedicated app — separate from the main Expo booking system. Check the dedicated app download requirement before your visit. Waits of up to 6 hours have been reported at peak times. Pre-booking through the app is the only reliable strategy.
Japan Pavilion: Features recycling technology demonstrations, Hello Kitty and Doraemon-themed content, and exhibits on sustainability. Entry is manageable with advance reservation.
Food Strategy: Kurazushi Expo Restaurant
Kurazushi has operated a global Expo restaurant featuring dishes from 70 countries and territories. Reservation opens via the dedicated Kurazushi app 30 days before your preferred date. The application window opens at a specific time — have the app ready before that moment.
The menu includes 22 dishes covering international cuisines. Reported experiences: no wait when the reservation was held, and the food quality matched the ambition of the concept.
For visitors interested in food as part of the expo experience rather than a supplement to it, the Kurazushi Expo restaurant is a legitimate destination rather than a convenience stop.
Unofficial Map: "Tsuji-san Map"
A third-party venue map created by a frequent expo visitor and circulated online. The map consolidates same-day registration availability, release windows by pavilion, and walk-in access status onto a single A3-printable sheet. Printing and bringing this map alongside the official app resolves the main navigation limitation of the official tools.
