Japan wants to double KAKENHI: what is actually growing, and was it really KAKENHI that got cut?

Japan's education ministry is reported to be seeking roughly double the current KAKENHI budget for FY2027, at 455.2 billion yen, together with converting the whole scheme to multi-year funds.
