OpenAI has begun rolling out GPT-5 to enterprise customers. The release marks a significant shift in OpenAI's go-to-market approach — prioritizing large B2B contracts alongside its consumer ChatGPT business.

Meta's $29 Billion Louisiana Data Center

Meta has announced plans for a $29 billion data center in Louisiana — one of the largest single data center investments ever announced. The facility will support Meta's AI training and inference workloads, which have grown dramatically with the expansion of its AI features across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The Louisiana location was selected for a combination of factors: land availability, power infrastructure (including access to renewable energy sources), and favorable tax incentives. The scale of the investment reflects Meta's belief that AI compute will be a long-term strategic differentiator, not a transient cost center.

Intel Under Political Pressure

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has been in an uncomfortable position: the company has faced public criticism from political figures who believe Intel's execution on its US-based chip manufacturing expansion has been too slow and too costly.

Gelsinger has pushed back, arguing that semiconductor manufacturing timelines are inherently long and that Intel's commitment to domestic production — supported by CHIPS Act funding — is proceeding as planned. Micron and Samsung: HBM Market Leadership

High-bandwidth memory (HBM) has become one of the most strategically important components in AI hardware. AI accelerators from NVIDIA and others require enormous memory bandwidth, and HBM — memory stacked directly on or near the compute chip — is the dominant solution.

Micron has emerged as a significant challenger to SK Hynix's HBM market leadership. Micron's HBM3E product has received certification from NVIDIA and is ramping production. Samsung, despite having the largest memory manufacturing capacity in the world, has struggled with HBM quality issues and is fighting to recover market share.

The HBM race matters because AI chip demand translates directly into HBM demand — whoever controls HBM supply has meaningful leverage over the AI infrastructure buildout.

Stargate: AI Infrastructure at National Scale

The Stargate project — a $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative backed by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle — continues to develop. The project aims to build AI data centers across the United States at a scale that would make the US the dominant location for frontier AI training.

Stargate represents a bet that AI compute will be a national strategic asset, not just a commercial resource. The involvement of SoftBank brings Japanese capital and political relationships; Oracle brings enterprise cloud infrastructure; OpenAI brings the AI models and customer relationships.

Critics have questioned whether the $500 billion figure is realistic on the announced timeline. But even at a fraction of that scale, Stargate-related construction and equipment purchases would represent one of the largest infrastructure investments in US history.
