Transport Updates
New Bentencho Station Shuttle Bus (From August 1)
A new shuttle bus route from Bentencho Station began service on August 1, providing guaranteed seating — a meaningful improvement over routes where standing or seat uncertainty was common.
Key details:
- Fare: ¥850 per person
- Reservation: KANSAI MaaS app (advance booking required)
- First departure: 7:30 AM
- All seats guaranteed
The seated guarantee matters particularly for summer conditions, where standing on a crowded bus in high heat adds physical cost before you even reach the venue. Booking in advance via the app is required — day-of availability is not guaranteed.
Sakurajima route comparison: The existing Sakurajima Station shuttle maintains a track record of approximately 90% seated availability, which is high by comparison to earlier in the season. For West Gate access specifically, both Sakurajima and Bentencho routes remain viable; the choice depends on your origin point.
East–West Gate shuttle bus (operational from July 1): For visitors needing to move between gates within the venue, a shuttle bus runs from East Gate to West Gate. Journey time: approximately 10 minutes; fare: ¥400. Frequency: every 4–5 minutes. Walk time for the same route is approximately 23 minutes (available 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM).
Entertainment Updates
Water Shows: Resumed
Two water shows that had been suspended resumed operation:
"Symphony of Water and Air" (Daytime) — Runs between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM; each performance approximately 5 minutes.
"Ao and the Night Rainbow Parade" (Evening) — Time slots: 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM. From 8:57 PM, a drone performance is added as an extension to the evening show.
Both shows are outdoor events. Plan arrival at the designated viewing area in advance during summer heat — the evening slot is significantly more comfortable than midday.
Nightly Fireworks
A fireworks display has been added to the evening program:
- Through July 31: Launch from approximately 7:57 PM
- August onward: Launch time under adjustment (confirm via official app)
- Duration: approximately 4 minutes
- Volume: 148 four-inch shells
- Music: the official expo theme song "Kono Hoshi no Tsuzuki" ("This Star, Continued")
The display is structured around the official theme song, which gives it a more cohesive experience than a typical event fireworks show.
Forest of Civilization: Reopened (From July 20)
The Forest of Civilization (Bunmei no Mori) area, which had been closed since April 28, reopened on July 20. The area provides a distinct experiential register from the tech-heavy pavilions — a more atmospheric, historically evocative space.
Myaku-Myaku Events: New Formats
Myaku-Myaku Statue Relocation: The Myaku-Myaku statue that had been located in front of Osaka City Hall has been relocated to the area near the West Gate at the venue.
Myaku-Myaku★Challenge: An event requiring download of the EXPO 2025 Digital Wallet app and registration in the Myaku-Myaku Reward Program. Participants complete a "experience reservation" within the app. Prizes include venue-limited expo merchandise distributed via lottery.
Meet the Myaku-Myaku: A character photography event with 30 groups per day (up to 4 people per group). Access is by lottery through the Digital Wallet app. Application window: midnight to 10:00 AM; results announced within that timeframe. Participants must be physically present at the venue to claim their slot within 30 minutes of receiving confirmation.
Pavilion Reservation and Facility Updates
Timed-Release Reservation System: Expanded
The timed-release slot system (originally implemented at the Gundam Pavilion as the "Gundam Method") has been expanded to additional pavilions. Participants now include Panasonic, the Flying Car Station, Mitsubishi Future, NTT, Sumitomo Pavilion, Kansai Pavilion, Monster Hunter Bridge, Osaka Healthcare Pavilion, and Japan Pavilion — among others.
Each pavilion has specific release times; check the official app for the current schedule.
LINE Lottery for Sumitomo Pavilion: A LINE-based draw has been introduced at the Sumitomo Pavilion entrance. Scan the QR code, add the official LINE account, and participate in the draw. This supplements the standard app-based reservation system.
EXPO Sunset Beer Terrace (New Facility at West Gate Far End)
A new dining area opened at the far west end of the venue:
- Location: adjacent to the West Gate, at the far end near the Expo Sauna facility
- Capacity: approximately 1,800 guests
- Hours: 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Food: food trucks including Dotonbori Kukuru and Rappoppo Farm
- View: bay area evening scenery
For business visitors, the post-3 PM opening window — after the most intense heat has passed — makes this a practical late-afternoon base for conversation, debrief, or simply extending the visit into evening.
Yumeshima Station Uchiwa Fan Distribution
From August 1 to 8 and August 18 to 29, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM daily, Yumeshima Station distributes complimentary uchiwa (round paper fans) — over 70,000 total. Practical for outdoor movement during peak summer heat.
Nepal and Jordan Pavilions: Content Updates
Nepal Pavilion — Operating hours and exhibit rotation rates improved; visitors report fuller access to craft and cultural exhibits than earlier in the season.
Jordan Pavilion — A new evening program uses a sand-surface display for projected imagery. Available by reservation; booking required for the evening slot.
Summary
The August changes create a meaningfully different visitor experience from the opening period:
| Area | Change |
|---|---|
| Transport | New Bentencho shuttle (¥850, guaranteed seats, 7:30 AM start) |
| Evening entertainment | Water show resumed, nightly fireworks, drone performance |
| Cultural space | Forest of Civilization reopened |
| Character events | Meet the Myaku-Myaku lottery, Digital Wallet★Challenge |
| Pavilion reservations | Timed-release expanded to 10+ pavilions; LINE lottery at Sumitomo |
| Dining | EXPO Sunset Beer Terrace (West Gate, 4–9 PM, 1,800 capacity) |
If your previous visit was in April or May, the August version of the expo is operationally more capable — more evening programming, more transport options, more predictable reservation windows. Plan around the 4 PM to closing window for summer comfort, and confirm current release times for target pavilions before arrival.
