The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is Samsung's latest flagship foldable, launched in 2025. Beyond the hardware specs covered in the detailed review, the Z Fold 7 introduces meaningful software updates with Android 16 and One UI 8, along with an expanded AI feature set. Here is a complete look at the device.
Design and Dimensions
- Thickness: 8.9mm when closed — Samsung's thinnest Fold to date
- Weight: 215g
- Cover display: 6.5 inches
- Inner display: 8 inches (unfolded)
The cover display is proportionally wider than previous Fold generations, making the phone more usable in closed mode. At 215g, the Z Fold 7 is lighter than its predecessor despite the larger inner display. The 8.9mm closed thickness brings it meaningfully closer to standard smartphone dimensions.
Software: Android 16 and One UI 8
The Z Fold 7 ships with Android 16, paired with Samsung's One UI 8 layer. This is a first for a major Samsung foldable at launch — the combination brings Google's latest platform features alongside Samsung's customization and AI integrations.
One UI 8 is optimized for the dual-display form factor, with multitasking improvements and app continuity across cover-to-inner display transitions. The foldable-specific features — Flex Mode panels, split-screen improvements, taskbar access — are refined in this release.

AI Features
Generative Edit: Samsung's photo editing AI, built into the Gallery app. Capabilities include background removal, object removal, and style adjustments applied through generative AI. The system can separate subjects from backgrounds without manual masking — useful for social media content, presentations, or document illustration.
Gemini Live: Google's conversational AI is integrated at the system level. Gemini Live allows real-time voice conversation with contextual awareness — asking questions about content on screen, getting summaries, or using AI as a live assistant during calls or meetings. The large inner display makes Gemini Live more practical on the Fold 7 than on standard phones.
Circle to Search: Draw a circle around anything on screen to trigger a Google search. Available on both the cover and inner display.
Camera System
- Main: 200MP
- Ultrawide: 12MP
- Telephoto: 10MP
- Inner selfie: Hole-punch camera (not under-display)
The telephoto lens provides optical zoom capability — the Z Fold 7 is a full three-camera system, unlike previous Fold generations that compromised on telephoto to accommodate the hinge mechanism. The 200MP main sensor is shared with the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Battery and Charging
- Capacity: 4,400mAh
- Wired charging: 25W
- Wireless charging: 15W
The 4,400mAh battery is a significant increase over previous Fold generations. Combined with the Snapdragon 8 Elite's efficiency improvements, battery life is meaningfully better than earlier foldables. In testing, the main display lasted over 20 hours of continuous use.
Wired charging at 25W is slower than some competitors — the S25 Ultra charges at 45W — but wireless charging at 15W is useful for desk charging during the workday.
Durability
- Water and dust: IP48
- Front cover display: Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2
- Back: Gorilla Glass Victus 2
- Inner display: Ultra Thin Glass (UTG)
- Hinge: Armor FlexHinge
IP48 provides water resistance at depths beyond 1 meter for extended periods, with dust resistance at the practical level. The Armor FlexHinge is rated for 500,000 open/close cycles.

Summary
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 positions Samsung's foldable line at a new level of practicality:
- Thinnest Fold yet: 8.9mm closed, 215g
- Android 16 + One UI 8: Latest platform with foldable-optimized multitasking
- AI features: Generative Edit, Gemini Live, Circle to Search built in
- Full camera system: 200MP main + 12MP ultrawide + 10MP telephoto
- Battery: 4,400mAh with 25W wired / 15W wireless charging
- Durability: IP48, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 + Victus 2
For business users who have held off on foldables due to durability or battery concerns, the Z Fold 7 represents the generation that addresses both. The AI feature set with Gemini Live is particularly useful for the Fold's larger inner display.
