The Future of AI in the Semiconductor Industry: Evolution of Deep Learning Models and Expanding Demand

The semiconductor industry is undergoing a massive transformation driven by advances in artificial intelligence. In particular, the evolution and widespread adoption of deep learning models is fueling semiconductor demand. This article explores the latest trends and outlook for AI in the semiconductor industry.

Rising Semiconductor Demand Driven by Deep Learning Model Evolution Impact of US-China Trade Tensions and the Importance of Domestic Demand The Need to Strengthen Supply Capacity in Response to Growing Demand Conclusion

Rising Semiconductor Demand Driven by Deep Learning Model Evolution

In recent years, large-scale language models such as GPT-3 and ChatGPT have attracted significant attention. These models require enormous computational resources, which has led to a rapid surge in demand for high-performance semiconductors.

In the inference domain in particular, deep learning models are evolving rapidly, and increasingly advanced inference requires even greater computational resources. For example, OpenAI's "GPT-5.2" shows dramatically improved reasoning capabilities compared to GPT-3, and high-performance semiconductors are essential to support it.

Along with the evolution of inference models, a technology known as "Test-Time Scaling" is gaining attention. This technique dynamically adjusts computational resources during inference to enable more sophisticated reasoning. As this technology becomes more widespread, semiconductor demand is expected to expand further.

Impact of US-China Trade Tensions and the Importance of Domestic Demand

At the same time, the semiconductor industry is affected by US-China trade tensions, and export restrictions to the Chinese market have become a concern. In response, securing domestic demand has become increasingly important.

In fact, major tech companies such as Microsoft and Amazon are actively investing in data centers within the United States, which serves as a key driver of domestic semiconductor demand. Additionally, AI applications in new fields such as autonomous vehicles and robotics are also expected to boost semiconductor demand.

The Need to Strengthen Supply Capacity in Response to Growing Demand

To meet the growing semiconductor demand driven by AI adoption, strengthening supply capacity is essential. In particular, it is important to increase production of high-performance semiconductors manufactured using advanced processes.

On this front, semiconductor giant NVIDIA is ramping up its production capacity for advanced-process semiconductors to meet expanding demand. Intel and TSMC are also increasing investment in advanced processes, and the industry as a whole is moving to strengthen supply capacity.

However, strengthening supply capacity requires significant investment, and supply-demand tightness is expected to persist in the short term. As a result, users on the demand side will need to plan their procurement carefully.

From the Invisible Foundation to Every Detail: The Responsibility and Joy of Building Right — Fujita Construction

Careful construction from the invisible foundation to the smallest detail — the responsibility and joy of being entrusted with our clients' assets.

We believe in doing the job properly on every site, no matter what. A recent new apartment building project was a site where that belief was fully embodied.

The apartment building handled by Fujita Construction

The client was a landowner who owns several plots of land in Kamata. He had previously built a wooden apartment building on the land, and approached us to rebuild it because it had deteriorated.

It turns out that some time ago, we had been doing new construction work near land he owned. He watched the work and thought: "Their foundation is different from other construction sites. They're spending real money on the parts you can't see." That's what led him to ask us to handle the rebuilding.

The foundation that supports a building has a legally mandated minimum strength standard. How far above that level to go is largely left to the builder's judgment. Since the foundation is invisible once the building is complete, some companies don't invest in what can't be seen. But even if it's invisible, the foundation is the most important part of any building, and once built, it cannot be easily reworked. That's why I have always prioritized the foundation in my work. To have that recognized by a client was genuinely gratifying.

The commission came in 2009. From there, with staggered timing due to tenant relocation, we built four apartment buildings over about ten years. For the fourth and final building in particular, everything from scheduling to drawings went extremely smoothly.

Thorough preparation is key to smooth construction. When using large machinery, for instance, you need to think through how to bring it in — considering the road layout, setting up traffic controllers, communicating with the surrounding area — there are countless things to think about in advance. We thought through all of it and were able to execute the construction almost exactly as planned. In my own assessment, it was the best work I could do at this stage in my career.

Before the handover, we invited the client to see the completed building. He said, "It's wonderful — thank you," and was satisfied. But just a few days later, he collapsed. He never regained consciousness and passed away.

He was over 80 years old, and when we were building the apartments, he had said, "This will be the last one." Apparently he had originally planned to stop at three, but he was so pleased with our work that he decided to commission one more while he was still alive. I'm grateful that I was able to build the building he wanted in the last stage of his life, to the best of my ability.

Buildings are our clients' assets. That's why it's important to maintain the awareness that you are building someone's assets, and to construct carefully — even the parts no one will ever see, even the smallest details. And as much as possible, I want to be there to maintain the buildings I've been involved with, alongside the client. I want to continue this work within a visible relationship with clients in the local community.

Reading PR TIMES & IDEAS FOR GOOD Articles Vol. 5

Today's featured press releases and articles:

  • Electric micro-mobility vehicle "Striemo" developed, with sales to begin before year-end (https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000001.000102850.html)

  • A barometer introduced in French supermarkets to indicate whether produce is in season (https://ideasforgood.jp/2022/06/13/seasonal-fruits/)

Hello, this is Shun from ONE X. Starting today, I'd like to share IDEAS FOR GOOD news articles as well. The first press release covers the development and sale of the electric micro-mobility vehicle "Striemo." Born from Honda's in-house entrepreneurship program IGNITION, the startup Striemo Co., Ltd. leverages Honda's engine expertise and, with user safety as a top priority, aims to reduce anxiety about balance during riding and enable a natural riding experience.

The next news item covers the seasonal produce barometer. Introduced by French supermarket chain Casino Group, the barometer is designed to encourage shoppers to be more mindful of seasonal produce.

My thoughts on the first press release: In recent years, the spread of electric scooters and changes in legislation have expanded transportation options. However, instability and dangerous riding behavior have emerged as concerns. Against this backdrop, I find it particularly interesting that Striemo — born from Honda's in-house entrepreneurship program, drawing on deep expertise in vehicle development — is developing with safety in mind. The standout feature for me is the "Balance Assist System," which allows the vehicle to remain upright even when stopped. This directly addresses a key challenge with electric micro-mobility: the weight of electric vehicles, which previously made them prone to tipping. The established trust and reliability of the company behind it also adds significant reassurance for users considering a new experience.

My thoughts on the second article: Two points stand out. The first is environmental impact. The fact that eating what's in season — as our ancestors have done — is both nutritious and environmentally beneficial is deeply meaningful. Technology has made it possible to grow things out of season or deliver goods much faster, but that comes at an environmental cost. The second is the design approach. Using a visual barometer to measure awareness is fascinating. While implementing a full system incurs costs, design-based interventions can be implemented at lower cost — making well-designed cues highly effective.

China-Related Transactions Export-Control Screening Sheet (fill-in / Export Control Law & Dual-Use Regulations, critical minerals, Control List, 2026)

A fill-in working sheet for companies trading with China: screen a single transaction against China's export-control regime (the Export Control Law and the Dual-Use Items Export Control Regulations), the controls on critical minerals (gallium/germanium/graphite/antimony/tungsten etc./rare earths/helium), and the four counterparty-list systems (Control List, Watch List, Unreliable Entity List, countermeasure lists). A procedure for "what to check before the deal," not a roster of "who is listed." With a plain-language intro, based on MOFCOM announcements. Listing is a regulatory category, not a judgment about any company (including the Japanese firms on the Japan-directed lists); controls change continually, so verify current announcements and consult your officer. Match counterparties using the original simplified-Chinese wording.
